About the Role
Behind every great event is an incredible team of volunteers, and at UNLEASHED, we want everyone who gives their time to feel valued, supported and part of something special.
As our Head of Volunteer Support, you'll play a key role in bringing that team together, helping recruit, organise and look after the volunteers who make UNLEASHED possible.
From welcoming new volunteers to ensuring everyone is fed, supported and in the right place at the right time, you'll help create a brilliant volunteer experience throughout our 25-hour event.
You'll be part of the UNLEASHED Core Team, working alongside the Event Leads and other Heads to shape and deliver the event.
What You'll Be Doing
- Volunteer Recruitment & Onboarding - Help attract volunteers, coordinate registrations and ensure everyone has the information they need to get involved.
- Volunteer Planning & Rotas - Work with other Core Team members to understand staffing requirements, coordinate shifts and ensure appropriate cover throughout the event.
- Catering & Hospitality - Coordinate food and refreshments for our volunteers, helping keep everyone fuelled throughout the event.
- Volunteer Experience - Help create a welcoming and supportive environment, including coordinating breaks, rest arrangements and volunteer facilities.
- Team Leadership - Identify where additional support is needed and build your own team to help deliver your area.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who enjoys bringing people together and understands what it takes to support volunteers at a busy event.
Ideally, you'll have:
- Previous experience helping organise or deliver events, whether through Scouting, Guiding or elsewhere.
- Experience coordinating volunteers, teams or activities.
- Good organisational and communication skills, with the ability to plan ahead and adapt when things change.
- An understanding of the importance of volunteer wellbeing, including breaks, rest arrangements and keeping people supported throughout a busy event.
- The confidence to make decisions, solve problems and work collaboratively with other Core Team members.
You don't need to have led a large event before, but some practical event experience will help you understand what's needed and plan effectively.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone enthusiastic, approachable and keen to help create a brilliant experience for everyone volunteering at UNLEASHED.
Your Team, Your Approach
As a Core Team member, you'll have the freedom to shape how your area operates.
You won't be expected to do everything yourself. You can identify the support you need, recruit additional volunteers and establish smaller teams to help deliver your responsibilities.
You'll have the support of the Event Leads and the wider Core Team throughout.
Time Commitment
This is a planning and event delivery role, with involvement in the lead-up to UNLEASHED as well as during the event itself.
You'll attend Core Team meetings, work with fellow Heads to develop plans and coordinate your area as the event approaches.
We recognise that everyone is volunteering their time, and we'll work together to make commitments manageable.
What Success Looks Like
- UNLEASHED has enough volunteers with the right skills and experience to deliver the event successfully.
- Volunteers receive clear information before the event and understand their roles and responsibilities.
- Appropriate rotas, breaks and handover arrangements are in place throughout the 25 hours.
- Catering, refreshments and volunteer facilities are well organised and meet the team's needs.
- Volunteers feel welcomed, valued, supported and part of the UNLEASHED team.
- A capable supporting team is established, with responsibilities shared and delegated effectively.
