UNLEASHED is all about giving Explorer Scouts and Guides the opportunity to try something new, challenge themselves, have fun and make incredible memories.
As our Head of Programme, you'll work closely with the Event Leads to bring their vision for UNLEASHED to life, helping turn ambitious ideas into an exciting, varied and achievable programme of activities.
You'll bring your own creativity, experience and practical knowledge to help shape how the programme is delivered, ensuring we create something truly memorable across the full 25 hours.
You'll be part of the UNLEASHED Core Team, working collaboratively with the Event Leads and other Heads to make it all happen.
What You'll Be Doing
- Bringing the Vision to Life - Work closely with the Event Leads to develop and deliver the overall programme vision for UNLEASHED.
- Programme Development - Translate ideas into a varied, engaging and achievable programme of activities for Explorer Scouts and Guides.
- Activity Providers - Identify, engage and coordinate activity providers, instructors and volunteers who can help deliver the programme.
- Programme Planning - Develop activity schedules, capacity requirements and delivery plans, ensuring activities are available throughout the event, including overnight.
- Programme Resources - Work with the wider Core Team to identify equipment, facilities, infrastructure and staffing requirements.
- Safety & Accessibility - Work alongside the Head of Health, Safety & Wellbeing to ensure activities are appropriately risk assessed, accessible and inclusive.
- Budget Management - Plan and manage programme expenditure within an agreed budget, working with the Event Leads and District finance arrangements.
- Team Leadership - Build and coordinate a programme team with the skills and experience needed to deliver the activities.
You'll work closely with the Head of Entertainment to ensure activities and entertainment complement each other throughout the event.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone creative, organised and passionate about providing exciting opportunities for young people.
Ideally, you'll have:
- Previous experience planning or delivering activities at Scout, Guide, youth or similar events.
- An understanding of what makes a varied, engaging and age-appropriate activity programme.
- Experience coordinating activity teams, external providers or volunteers.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple activities and competing priorities.
- An appreciation of activity safety, accessibility and inclusive participation.
- The confidence to develop ideas, make decisions and work collaboratively with others.
Experience organising a large-scale event would be an advantage, but isn't essential. What's important is having practical programme experience and the enthusiasm to create something brilliant.
Your Team, Your Approach
As Head of Programme, you'll have the freedom to decide how best to organise and lead your programme team.
Working closely with the Event Leads, you'll help develop the programme, explore new ideas and identify the people, resources and providers needed to deliver it.
You won't be expected to do everything yourself. You'll be encouraged to recruit additional volunteers, establish smaller teams and delegate responsibilities to make the programme a success.
The Event Leads will provide the overall vision and direction, while you'll bring the expertise, organisation and leadership needed to make it happen.
Time Commitment
This is a planning and event delivery role, with involvement in the lead-up to UNLEASHED as well as during the event itself.
You'll attend Core Team meetings, work with fellow Heads to develop plans and coordinate your programme team as the event approaches.
We recognise that everyone is volunteering their time, and we'll work together to make commitments manageable.
What Success Looks Like
- The programme delivers the Event Leads' vision for UNLEASHED, creating an exciting and memorable experience for Explorer Scouts.
- A varied and engaging range of activities is available throughout the 25 hours, including overnight.
- Activities are appropriately planned, resourced, staffed and coordinated with the wider Core Team.
- Activity providers and delivery teams understand their responsibilities and are ready to deliver.
- The programme operates within its agreed budget, with appropriate contingency arrangements.
- Explorer Scouts have opportunities to challenge themselves, try new experiences and make lasting memories.
